An absolute must on Santorini!
We'll depart from Fira and drive all the way along to Oia, passing some of the traditional villages, of the island. There's Mesa Gonia, the “ghost” village, that was deserted after the earthquake of 1956 and is now rarely inhabited; the beautiful village of Pyrgos, with its lovely houses and Venetian cast; and the lovely village of Imerovigli overlooking the ancient rock of Skaras.
On the way to Oia, our route will offer breathtaking views in every direction, and our guide will point out all of the important sights along the way.
Oia, our ultimate destination, is one of the most beautiful villages of the island, carved out of the cliffs and clinging to the edge. The architecture is amazing and is highlighted by the stark white of the buildings and the contrasting colorful doors and window shutters. It has often been compared to the eagle's nest!
You will enjoy the astonishing panoramic view of caldera, the volcano, Thirassia Island, and the rest of Santorini looking back toward Fira. Oia is a favorite haunt of artists, many of whose works can be found in the local galleries of the village. And no wonder ... who would not be inspired by this magical place!
Oia is especially well known for its magnificent purple sunsets. While the sun sinks into the sea, its splendid colors spread throughout the sky. It literally takes your breath away! Get a front-row seat on the terrace of one of the many cafes lining the caldera, and enjoy a drink while watching the setting sun produce an array of colors beyond your imagination.
Fifteen minutes after the sunset, we'll return to the village square to board the bus for the return to our original point of departure.
