A boutique hotel in the heart of York just a 10-minute walk from York Minster. The building is a Grade II Listed Regency townhouse with sash windows, high ceilings, a sweeping central staircase, and ivy around the door. Inside you’ll find pantries stocked full of treats, great restaurant food throughout the day, drinks from the bar and a spa centred on bespoke therapies. Pearly Cow is a new restaurant at 1, Clifton that is devoted to respecting what thrives nearby – the herds, breeds, crops, and catches that sum up the area’s flavour. There’s 38 bedrooms, including three suites that are dotted around the building’s three floors. Each one has its quirks courtesy of the building’s heritage detailing. The rooms feature a flat-screen Smart TV, tea/coffee making facilities, an iron and hairdryer in the wardrobe. The spa sits down in the arches of the cellar. It’s a cocooning world of bespoke wellbeing experiences. There are five treatment rooms, including a room for two. And a soothing space for post-treatment relaxation. The Marmalade Lounge at No.1 is where the perfect afternoon tea is served. It combines savoury and sweet treats that honour the noble tradition but brings playful flavours together to give it a twist for today. Pearly Cow is there for when something more substantial is needed. The produce of land and sea we source is strictly the best – the wildest. Breakfast is light, hearty, or kick-starting with oysters and spiced-as-you-like bloody Marys. Lunch and dinner feature star ingredients in classics, interpretations, sharing dishes, and divine desserts. And kids have their own Pearly Calves menu. Afternoon tea is afternoon sea – a very fresh take on this timeless treat. And on Sundays, traditional roasts bring a beautiful close to the week A paid private car park is located on site. York Railway Station can be reached in 15 minutes on foot. There’s 38 bedrooms, including three suites that are dotted around the building’s three floors.
